Don't let zippers intimidate you. Learn how to sew them like the pros with helpful tips on a few different applications.
It's easiest to add zippers to your sewing projects by using a sewing machine with a zipper foot. A zipper foot comes standard with most machines, and has a presser that is offset to one side (so you can see your work clearly, and avoid catching your needle on the zipper teeth).
If you're new to zippers, you can practice by making a small zippered pouch or bag first, using the exposed zipper tutorial below. Once you've mastered the basics, try sewing a concealed zipper into the seam of a skirt, or a fly-front zipper into a pair of pants or jeans.
